Editing Video Clips

This tutorial covers the core editing actions — getting clips onto the timeline, cutting them to length, and arranging them into a sequence.

Adding Clips to the Timeline

1. Open your project in the Video Editor
2. Find a clip in the Media Library (left panel)
3. Drag the clip from the library onto a video track in the timeline
4. Drop it at the position where you want it to start

The clip appears as a block on the timeline. Its width represents its duration.

Trimming Clips

Trimming shortens a clip from the beginning or end without deleting the rest of the source material.

1. Hover over the left edge or right edge of a clip on the timeline
2. The cursor changes to a trim icon
3. Click and drag inward to shorten the clip
4. Release when you reach the desired length

The trimmed portion is hidden, not deleted. You can always drag the edge back out to restore it.

Splitting Clips

Splitting cuts a clip into two separate segments at a specific point.

1. Move the playhead to the exact frame where you want to cut
2. Select the clip you want to split
3. Press S on your keyboard (or click the split icon in the toolbar)
4. The clip divides into two independent segments

You can now move, trim, or delete each segment independently.

Arranging Clips

Reordering

Drag a clip left or right on the timeline to change when it appears in the video. Clips snap to the edges of neighboring clips to help you avoid gaps.

Moving Between Tracks

Drag a clip up or down to move it to a different track. This is useful for layering — placing a clip on a higher track makes it overlay content on lower tracks.

Filling Gaps

If you delete a clip and leave a gap, either:

• Drag the adjacent clip to close the gap
• Right-click the gap and select Ripple Delete to shift everything left automatically

Working with Audio

Audio clips work the same way as video clips:

1. Drag an audio file from the media library onto an audio track
2. Trim, split, and reposition just like video clips
3. Adjust volume by clicking the clip and using the volume slider in the properties panel

To mute the original audio of a video clip, select the video clip and set its audio volume to zero in the properties panel.

Multi-Select

Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) and click multiple clips to select them together. You can then move, delete, or apply changes to all selected clips at once.

Tip: Use the zoom controls on the timeline to zoom in for precise frame-level editing or zoom out to see your entire project.
