Spaces Director

Tell the Director your idea in plain words. It plans the cast, the places and every shot on your board, and nothing renders until you press Generate.

The Director is the chat panel inside a Space. Tell it what you want in plain words. It plans the work, puts the cards on the board and wires them together. It never renders anything. Only a person presses Generate.

Open the Director

  1. Click Spaces in the left sidebar and open a board, or click New Space.
  2. Press D, or click the clapperboard key at the bottom of the tool strip on the left.
  3. The Director panel opens on the right. Close it with the X key or Esc.

On a new chat, the panel shows four example requests. Clicking one sends it at once.

Give It a Brief

Type your idea in the box at the bottom of the panel. For example:

Plan a six-shot spot for a new espresso bar.

  • Enter sends. Shift+Enter starts a new line.
  • Stop ends a turn that is still running.

Tip: Say where the video will play, such as TikTok, Reels or YouTube. The shape of every card depends on it.

Step 1: The Plan

On a board with nothing on it, the Director does not build yet. It answers with a plan:

  • How it will approach the piece.
  • Who and what is in it: the cast, the props and the places.
  • One or two short questions, such as "Is this for Reels, or for YouTube?"

No cards go on the board in this step. Answer in a few words. If you write "go with your call", it decides for you. The Director plans once per board. After that, it builds.

Step 2: The Cast, Then the World

Each time you reply, the next part goes on the board:

  1. The cast. A reference card for each person.
  2. The world. Reference cards for the places and props.

These cards sit on the left of the board. Reply "yes", correct something ("make her older"), or say "build it" to lay everything at once.

Step 3: The Shots

Then the Director builds the shots. Each row on the board is one shot, from left to right:

  • Text cards that describe the shot.
  • An Image card for the still.
  • A Video card for the clip that the still feeds.

Every shot is wired to the cast, places and props it uses. This helps keep a face, a product and a room the same in every shot.

A big build arrives row by row. The Build strip above the chat box counts the rows as they land.

Review and Change

  • Click the nodes key under a reply to select the cards that turn made and move the board to them.
  • Click Undo under a reply to take back that whole turn. The key shows only while nothing else has changed since.
  • Ask for changes in plain words: "make shot 3 vertical", "add a clip after that still", "make a YouTube thumbnail".
  • Edit any card text yourself. Editing cards is free.
  • To remove a card or a wire, select it and press Delete. The Director cannot delete.
  • Ask how Spaces works, for example "What does the lightning key do?"
  • To continue a story, ask it to continue from another board by its title. It brings that board's cast, places and props.

Budget and Pick the Right Model

Every card is free until you press Generate, so plan the budget on the board first.

  1. Look at the coin beside Generate on each card. It shows the credits for that card's model and settings.
  2. Click Model on a card, then open the list. Type in Search models... to find one. The list shows names only; the coin on the card shows the price.
  3. Click Settings to change the aspect ratio, the resolution or the clip length. A longer clip moves the coin up.

A good starting point:

Card Model Why
Image (stills) GPT Image 2 Sharp, detailed frames. The default is Grok Imagine Image 2.0
Video (most clips) Grok Imagine The low-cost choice, so a second try costs little
Video (fights, fast action) Seedance Reads your cast, places and props as references. It costs several times more than Grok

When the Director writes a shot as a fight, the video card gets a Fight badge. It puts that card on Seedance 2.0 Mini, unless the model you picked can already take references. The model you pick is remembered for your next cards.

See the Price, Then Render

Nothing renders by itself. Making, wiring and editing cards is free.

  1. Each Image, Video, Audio and Lip Sync card has a Generate key (⚡). The credit price shows beside it.
  2. Click Model or Settings on the card to change them before you render.
  3. Ask "Are we ready to render? What would it cost?" The Director counts the cards and the credits and changes nothing.
  4. Ask "Render it" or "What is left to render?" A queue opens at the bottom left. It names the next card and its price.
  5. Press the key once for each card. If a card fails, choose Try again or Skip it.

Note: On this board, "build it" and "let's generate" ask for cards, which is free. Say "render" when you want the render queue.

Each message you send to the Director uses a few credits for the chat. If your balance is too low, the panel tells you how many credits it needs.

Troubleshooting

The Director says nothing changed

Solution: The board refused the change. Ask again in simpler words, or make the change yourself on the card.

The render queue says a card has no prompt

Solution: That card renders from a generic prompt. Wire a text card into it, or type a prompt on the card first.

A row is missing after a build

Solution: Open the Build strip above the chat box. A row that failed says so. Ask the Director to build that shot again.
