Canvas Editor Basics

Learn the workspace — toolbar, canvas, and properties panel. Add text, images, and shapes.

The Canvas Editor is a drag-and-drop design tool for creating social media graphics, ads, banners, and branded visuals. No design experience needed.

The Workspace

The editor is divided into three areas:

Left Toolbar

The toolbar contains all the elements you can add to your design:

  • Text — Headlines, body text, and styled text blocks
  • Images — Upload your own or browse the stock library
  • Shapes — Rectangles, circles, lines, arrows, and custom shapes
  • Icons — Thousands of icons in multiple styles
  • AI Generate — Create images from text prompts directly in the editor
  • Templates — Pre-designed layouts you can customize
  • Uploads — Your previously uploaded files

Center Canvas

This is your design area. It shows the exact dimensions of your output. You can:

  • Click an element to select it
  • Drag to move elements around
  • Resize by dragging corner handles
  • Rotate by dragging the rotation handle above the selection

Right Properties Panel

When you select an element, the properties panel shows its settings:

  • Position & Size — Exact X, Y, width, height values
  • Color & Fill — Background color, opacity, gradients
  • Typography — Font, size, weight, alignment, line height (for text elements)
  • Border & Shadow — Stroke, corner radius, drop shadow
  • Layer Order — Move forward, backward, to front, to back

Adding Text

  1. Click Text in the left toolbar
  2. Choose a text style (heading, subheading, body) or click Add Text
  3. Click on the canvas to place it
  4. Double-click the text to edit its content
  5. Use the properties panel to change font, size, color, and alignment

Adding Images

  1. Click Images in the left toolbar
  2. Upload an image or search the stock library
  3. Click or drag the image onto the canvas
  4. Resize and position as needed

Adding Shapes

  1. Click Shapes in the left toolbar
  2. Select a shape type
  3. Click on the canvas to place it
  4. Adjust size, color, and border in the properties panel

Working with Layers

Elements stack on top of each other. The most recently added element is on top. To reorder:

  • Right-click an element and choose "Bring Forward" or "Send Backward"
  • Use the layer panel to drag elements into the order you want

Canvas Size

Set your canvas dimensions based on where you will use the design:

Platform Size
Instagram Post 1080 x 1080
Instagram Story 1080 x 1920
Facebook Post 1200 x 630
Facebook Cover 820 x 312
YouTube Thumbnail 1280 x 720
